Description: The American Association of University Women will make 60 Career Development Grants of $2,000-$12,000 to women in the early stages of a master's degree program who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who received their most recent academic degree before June 30, 2003. Special consideration will be given to women of color.

American Immigration, Emigration, or Ethnic History

Description: The Immigration and Ethnic History Society announces competition for the 2008 George E. Pozzetta Award. It invites applications from any Ph.D. candidate who will have completed qualifying examinations by Dec. 1, 2007, and whose thesis focuses on American immigration, emigration, or ethnic history. The award provides $750 for expenses to be incurred in researching the dissertation.

Dissertations on Christianity and Contemporary American Religion

Description: The Louisville Institute will award up to ten $18,000 fellowships for the final year of dissertation writing on the study of American religion, in particular projects that attempt to: 1) describe more fully how the Christian faith is actually lived by contemporary persons and to bring the resources of the Christian faith into closer relation to their daily lives and 2) help us understand the institutional reconfiguration of American religion.

The FEEA Scholarship

Description: The FEEA Scholarship is open to current civilian federal employees and their dependent family members (spouse or child). You or your sponsoring federal employee must have at least three years of federal service to qualify for this merit-based award. Active duty military members and military retirees are not eligible for this scholarship. You must also be at least a college freshman at an accredited two- or four-year post-secondary, graduate, or postgraduate program by the fall semester and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be considered. Dependents of federal employees must be full-time students; federal employees may be part-time students.

Inequality Beyond Globalization

Description: The World Society Foundation is offering a number of $1,000 grants for research articles on “Inequality Beyond Globalization: Economic Changes and the Dynamics of Inequality.” Proposals should include the title of the paper; an abstract of no more than 500 words; and the name, address, and affiliation of the author(s). The Foundation will evaluate these proposals and invite successful applicants to elaborate their proposals into full papers of 25-30 pages. Each paper meeting the quality standards of the leading scholarly journals will receive $1,000. The papers will be published on the Foundation's website, and the most outstanding papers will be published in a forthcoming volume (2009) of World Society Studies, the Foundation’s edited book series. The authors of the five most outstanding papers become candidates for the Foundation's Award of Excellence in World Society Research, $10,000 for First Prize and $5,000 for Second.

The Josephine De Kármán Fellowship Trust

Description: A minimum of ten (10) fellowships, $20,000 for graduate students and $10,000 for undergraduate students, will be awarded for the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters or the equivalent where the quarterly system prevails), paid through the fellowship office of the university in which the recipient is enrolled for study in the United States. Study must be carried out only in the United States and all funds must be expended only within this country. The fellowship is for one academic year and may not be renewed or postponed. Postdoctoral and masters degree students are not eligible for consideration.

Description: This program supports studies on cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to children's and adolescents' development and learning. Additional priorities are to support developmental research that: incorporates multidisciplinary, multi-method, microgenetic, and longitudinal approaches; develops new methods and theories; examines transfer of knowledge from one domain to another and from one situation to another; assesses peer relations, family interactions, social identities, and motivation; examines the impact of family, school, and community resources; assesses adolescents' preparation for entry into the workforce; and investigates the role of demographic characteristics and cultural influences on children's development.

NSF Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Description: The NSF Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences offers Minority Postdoctoral Research Fellowships and related supporting activities in an effort to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in selected areas of science in the U.S. Fellowships support training and research in a host institution in the areas of social, behavioral, and economic sciences supported by NSF. Supporting activities are travel grants to graduate students to visit prospective sponsors and starter research grants for Fellows.

The award acknowledges outstanding research conducted by student members with underrepresented populations, and winners will have the opportunity to present their research in address format at the APS Annual Convention plus receive a small monetary award.

Smithsonian Institution Latino Studies Fellowship Program

Description: The Smithsonian Latino Studies Fellowship Program offers awards to U.S. Latino/a predoctoral students and postdoctoral or senior scholars to pursue research related to Latino history, art, and culture using Smithsonian resources. Fellowship appointments are for up to 12 months with the opportunity to spend up to a third of the time in the field but not at the home institution. Predoctoral fellowships offer a stipend of $25,000 per year plus allowances and postdoctoral and senior fellowships offer a stipend of $40,000 plus allowances.

USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships

Description: USA Funds will award individual scholarships of $1,500, which can be renewed annually up to a total award of $6,000. To qualify, graduate students must be enrolled full-time, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and be able to demonstrate financial need. Up to 50% of the scholarships will be targeted to applicants who are members of an ethnic-minority group (Alaskan Native, American Indian, Asian, Black/African-American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander) or have a documented physical disability.

Description: The Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for 3- to 10-month Research Fellowships. The program supports research on any aspect of contemporary Mexico, Mexican history, and U.S.-Mexican relations. Comparative studies with a substantial Mexico component are especially encouraged. Most applicants are expected to be at the postdoctoral level, but graduate students who have completed a substantial portion of their dissertations will also be considered. Senior scholars are encouraged to apply. Fellowship stipends are commensurate with experience and academic rank.

Description: Many programs in the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences and the Division of Social and Economic Sciences of the National Science Foundation provide doctoral dissertation research improvement grants of up to $12,000. Funds may be used for valid research expenses, which include conducting field research; data collection and sample survey costs; payments to subjects or informants; specialized research equipment, analysis and services; supplies; travel to archives, specialized collections and facilities or field research locations; and partial living expenses for conducting research away from the student's U.S. academic institution. There are no citizenship requirements. In addition to the general program announcement, each program has specific guidelines.
