My focus in both my teaching and advising is to clarify for students the many opportunities and various career paths that exist in the retailing industry. Through my years of experience in the retailing industry as a store manager and buyer I have learned that success in this field depends as much on one's leadership and communication skills as it does on knowledge of marketing theory. For this reason, I am always challenged with the development of leadership and teamwork skills among college students. The internship experience between the junior and senior year is a very effective experiential learning tool our students utilize to develop these "soft skills." The Students In Free Enterprise Team began on our campus in 1998 and is another very powerful leadership development opportunity.
