Meet Our Staff!

Allison Ewing-Cooper, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Practice

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and moved to Tucson in 2004 to pursue my Ph.D. in Family Studies and Human Development at the University of Arizona.  Throughout my graduate career, I was a T.A., an R.A., and an academic advisor.  I loved the Norton School and its students so much, that when I graduated, I decided not to leave and was hired as the Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs.  I love working with my students and watching them grow into responsible, independent, caring leaders in the community.  I am married to my favorite person in the world and am the proud human to two adorable cats.  When not busy at work, I am an avid traveler, a karaoke champion, and board game enthusiast.

Maureen Kelly, Ph.D.
Associate Professor

I grew up in Newport, R.I. and received my B.S. and M.S. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and my Ph.D. from Ohio State University (Go Bucks!!). Having spent the better part of my career in Tucson, I have worked with hundreds of Family and Consumer Science teachers around the state and adapted to MANY curriculum changes. Personally, I love the subtle seasonal changes of the Southwest, gardening, a good laugh, classic movies, and Don Henley.

Jessica Kiesling, M.S.
Academic Advisor

I was born, raised, and educated in Iowa. I earned both my Bachelor of Science (2002) and Master of Science (2011) degrees in Agricultural Education at Iowa State University. For eight years, I advised low-income, first-generation-to-college, middle and high school students to plan and prepare for college through the TRIO Educational Talent Search Program at ISU. My master’s degree instilled a passion to teach college students and adults through the experiential learning. I am blessed to combine both my work experience and my education to advise and teach students in the Norton School.

I am: a farmer’s daughter, former 4-Her and FFA member, and Iowa Pork Princess (it’s an honor, trust me!) – making me a leader, baker, advocate and connector of people to resources. I have visited 7 countries and 36 states. I am a recent transplant to Tucson, thanks to my marriage, and love exploring the culture, desert and mountains with my husband.

Jacqueline Larriva
Jacqueline Larriva, M.A.
Coordinator, Internship and Career Development
Family Studies and Human Development

I was born and raised in Tucson and have lived most of my life in the Sonoran Desert. I attended the University of Arizona and graduated in 2007 with a BS in Family Studies & Human Development. Thanks to my McNair and UMPIRE mentors at the U of A, I decided to continue my education and left sunny, dry Arizona for cold, snowy New England. I received my master’s in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Connecticut (UConn) in 2011. As a grad student I developed a greater love for research and I also discovered my passion for teaching, mentoring, and advising undergraduates. I look forward to working with FSHD majors and minors achieve their goals and dreams!
