Welcome to the Norton School

Strengthening Families, Communities, and the Marketplace

Dr. Soyeon Shim, DirectorWelcome!

I think you’ll be glad that you have decided to explore the web site of the John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arizona.  We house a wide variety of innovative programs, yet all are united by our commitment to giving students hands-on experience and opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research.

No graduate leaves the Norton School without a head start on a future career.  Whether you are interested in research into child and youth development, directing e-commerce business for a major retail company, or working with troubled families, the Norton School has critically acclaimed programs that can help you achieve your aims.  Our outstanding faculty members offer many exciting courses in education, research and outreach, all part of a curriculum designed to prepare you for a Bachelor of Science degree in either of two academic majors: Family Studies and Human Development (FSHD) and Retailing and Consumer Sciences (RCSC).  And should you decide to continue your education after graduation, we have nationally recognized Master’s and doctoral programs.   We also offer numerous online courses offered through the NortOnline educational program, which attracts from all over the country students, community practitioners and business managers who want to study with us but can’t come to campus.

Visit us at McClelland Park, our new, $25-million home, built with contributions donated by nearly 2,000 individual and corporate partners.  You can find out more about the John and Doris Norton School and also learn about the Frances McClelland Institute for Children, Youth and Families, the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing, and the Take Charge America Institute for Consumer Financial Education and Research (TCAI), as well as the School’s Cooperative Extension Program, all of which are housed within the Norton School as interdisciplinary units with ties to the greater Arizona community and the industry.

Also check out Norton News to learn more about our school and the building’s dedication.

If you want additional information about our course offerings or degree programs, do not hesitate to email or write to us.  Welcome once again, and please visit often.
