Pringle’s Arizona Catalog

Cyrus Pringle, best known to botany as the founder of the Pringle Herbarium (VT), spent portions of four field seasons in the early 1900s in southern Arizona. During this time he explored several of its Sky Islands, the surrounding Sonoran Desert upland, and intervening riparian bottomlands. His collection of more than 1250 plant specimens form an important historical record of southwestern United States during this period. UA Herbarium Associated Researcher Kathryn Mauz has assembled an carefully annotated checklist of the specimens and species represented by this collection. Nomenclature and synonymy have been updated following a combination of taxonomic databases and literature, with priority for nomenclature employed at the University of Arizona Herbarium (ARIZ).
