A New Integrated Website & Database for the University of Arizona Herbarium
Launched in April of 2008, our new website includes direct access to the ARIZ specimen database. Our database provides detailed information on all Arizona specimens and a growing proportion of the rest of our collection.
Developed by Biodiversity Informatics Researcher Brad Boyle in collaboration with Herbarium Director Shelley McMahon, David Hearn and Michael Sanderson of the Biodiversity Informatics Initiative, and former herbarium Database Manager Ed Gilbert, the integrated website/database is designed to be a primary source of information on the taxonomy, morphology, distribution, and identification of the plants of Arizona and the Sonoran Desert Region.
This project is part of a campus-wide initiative to provide enhanced electronic access to University of Arizona Biological Colections, and is supported by the Department of Plant Sciences, the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and Bio5.
