Bone Builders is an osteoporosis prevention community education program that started in Maricopa County, Arizona and the Phoenix metro area. Therefore, we have many osteoporosis-related resources available to the community including presentations, brochures, articles and bookmarks.

Presentations:

Bring Bone Builders to your group for an informative presentation on osteoporosis prevention. A Bone Builders presentation covers:

• An introduction to osteoporosis
• Risk factors for the disease
• Prevention information including calcium and weight-bearing exercise
• Information on community resources and about becoming a Bone Builder volunteer

Our presentations can be done as a one-time presentation or as a series of short classes and can be modified depending on time allowance. In addition, if feasible, we could conduct a bone density screening later for the class participants (hosting organization may be asked to help with costs). A screening can help motivate people to improve their behavior.

Brochures and Posters

The brochure "Like Mother, Like Daughter . . . Building Strong Bones for A Lifetime” focuses primarily on women ages 25-55, and covers osteoporosis prevention and treatment. It is in English and has references to further information. Do not photocopy this document.

The poster "Building Strong Bones for a Lifetime” (12" x 18") focuses on women ages 25-55 and can be used to raise awareness. The "Like Mother, Like Daughter . . . Building Strong Bones for A Lifetime” brochure should accompany the poster for more information. Do not photocopy this document.

A 24-hour/day, taped message system on osteoporosis-related information in English and Spanish. The system is menu driven and covers many of the topics addressed in this website.

Articles

We have articles on a variety of topics related to osteoporosis. These articles, which come in a variety of lengths, could be used in church bulletins, community newspapers, or as payroll stuffers.

Bookmarks

There are two topics for the bookmarks, weight-bearing exercise and calcium-rich foods. These are quick reference guides to osteoporosis information. These could be used as “give-aways" at health fairs. It also has our web address and Dial Extension number.
