Because of its proximity to the archaeological site of Petra, the town of Wadi Musa and the hotels associated with it are important contributors to the economy of Jordan. However, they also place increased demands on local resources and the environment. The Wadi Musa Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Wastewater Re-use Proejct are important pieces in an overall strategy for ensuring the socioeconomic and ecological sustainability of the area.
