Mingus Mountain Watershed A

AREA: 96 ac (39 ha)
SLOPE:
ASPECT:
ELEVATION: 5,230 to 5,870 ft (1,595 to 1,790 m)
VEGETATION: Chaparral
PARENT MATERIAL: Granitic
GAGE:
PERIOD OF RECORD: 1958 through 1973
TREATMENT: Cabled in 1963 (see Watershed Treatments and Responses)

OBJECTIVE: To determine how converting low density stands of chaparral (less than 40% crown cover) would affect water yields. Mean annual streamflow was 0.04 to 0.19 inch and was ephemeral.

TREATMENT: The treatment plan called for watershed A to be burned and to keep brush cover below 10% crown density. The upper half of the watershed was burned in 1974 and the lower half in 1975 to minimize any treatment induced erosion (Hibbert 1986).
