Leaves: gray-green scale, immature growth more needle-like
Flowers: inconspicuous
Fruit: small rounded cone about the size of a quarter, not ornamental
Stems/Trunks: single trunk, gray
Range/Origin: southern Europe and Asia, now widely distributed
Hardiness: to 10°F

LANDSCAPE VALUE:

• accent
• softens tall buildings
• often used to line driveways, entryways and in graveyards
• out of scale for most residential uses

CULTURAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Exposure: full sun
• Water: drought tolerant; regular irrigation to establish, then once or twice per month,
• Soil: tolerant
• Propagation: seeds and cuttings
• Maintenance: low

NOTES:

very vulnerable to spider mites which cause foliage to brown and can even kill entire trees
