I'm growing a sweet potatoe vine and now it smells rather offensive.  I have it in water, and would like to plant it in a pot to hang either outside on the patio or somewhere in my house.  Is this possible to do this without growing another potatoe?

Also, if I just keep the current sweet potatoe in water, how can I get rid of the odor?
