I would like to try an alternative, low care and water use lawn - like a meadow - for my backyard.  I have tall, 50-year-old pine trees on the east and west side, with oleanders between them,  the center is open, and the soil is in pretty good condition.  I also have several dogs.  So I need something tough, not too long (so I can pick up after the dogs), and easy care.  Suggestions?  (Also maybe more shade tolerant stuff for near the trees.)
