[Arid_gardener] Hibiscus loosing all leaves and ready to croak.

Hi All,
    We are leasing a house and in the back yard we have 6 large hibiscus plants, they are all on a drip system and 3 are croaking. The leaves are all falling off and there appears to be no new growth. They are all protected by a 8 ft over hang, so they get no direct sun on them, just filtered light. We just arrived home from a 2 week vacation. 3 of the plants on the west side of the patio are in trouble, the other 3 look just fine and are 10 feet away on the east side. What can be happening? The water schedule has not changed. Could their be some kind of insect eating the roots or something? I don't want to replace these plants, but that seems like my only option. But I don't want to replant and have the same condition happen. Any ideas? Thanks Gus
