According to the information in the pub. "AZ1269 Deciduous Fruit & Nuts
for the Low Desert" at
http://cals.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/az1269/
there are three persimmon varieties that can be grown in our desert region.
But persimmon leafs out early in the spring and can be susceptible to late
freezes. Additionally, it is usually grafted onto a rootstock, e.g.Black
Sapote (Diospyros digyna), which is more aggressive that the root from the
seed pits.
