[Arid_gardener] Sonoran Emerald

Hi,

I live in Pima county and had 3 Sonoran Emerald trees planted in my yard in early May of this year. One is a 36 inch box and the other two are 24 inch box. The 36 inch which is on the south side and one of the 24 inch which is on the west side are doing very well. However the other 24 inch which is on the north side has not done as well. It never developed the new growth that the other two did after being planted and in the last week or so seems to have lost the few leaves it did have.

When I had the trees installed, I watered all three the same way, namely I filled the well left by the installer every day for about 10 days and then every other day for about 10 days then relied on the drip irrigation ( and this last week or so help from the summer rains).

The 24 inch trees have four two gallon per hour drippers and the 36 inch has eight two gallon per hour drippers. I've checked and all the drippers are supplying water. They come on every other day for about 80 minutes at about 6 AM. On the 24 inch that is not doing well, the small newer growth twigs break away as though they are dead but the larger older growth limbs still seem to be alive and bend rather than break when pressure is applied.

There are other smaller plants near this Sonoran Emerald, each with their own smaller drippers, though they were planted over a year ago and they all seem to be doing fine.

Any help on how to keep this tree alive will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Chuck Sarra 7T2Z at comcast.net
