I have a maturing (approx. 5 yrs) Bird of Paradise (reginae) that I keep outdoors here in Phoenix. It is in a reasonable spot getting sun and shade but not out in the harsh desert sun all day. It had been thriving for serveral months and has now developed a fast growing yellow growth protruding from the soil at the base. I can determine if the plant is propogating or if this might be a fungus. Do you have any suggestions as to what this might be and how to treat it?
