Your description sounds like you might be seeing
box-elder bugs. They are harmless to people and
usually cause insignificant damage when they feed
on ash tress, box elder, etc. In the summer, they
can appear at homes in large numbers looking for
shelter.

If this doesn't look like the bug you are seeing,
collect a few and take them to your nearest
County cooperative Extension Office for
identification.
