You should try one of the passion vines, Clair, that may provide fruit as well as lovely flowers. Passiflora edulis Frederick is one commonly grown here but you may not readily find it in a local nursery. It is, however, propagated by a California Wholesale Nursery, LaVerne who sells plant stock to virtually every retail nursery in Arizona. Ask your local guy to order one for you if you decide to try this one or several of its many varieties. I have seen the Frederick at Bakers Nursery on 40th Street and in Home Depot stores..
There are many Web sites featuring Passiflora cultivars.
You can suspend 1" chicken wire to stucco if you want such a cover.

We have a Tuscany style home in a reddish stucco and I think some vines would look wonderful. I would like to find a vine or climbing plant to grow in 2 places. Firstly at the front of our house to soften the front door area and secondly at the back of the house around our patio area. In both places the plant would need to grow on stucco and it would be good if it didn't kill the stucco. Also I know some vines (trumpet vines) send out runners and can be hard work to contain to a certain area so something that doesn't suddenly show up in the neighbors yard would be good! Both locations recieve a lot of sun although the front area would be in shade by mid/late afternoon.
