Subject: [Arid_gardener] tree to shade yard

I'm looking for suggestions for a tree. I live in small yard. I need a tree
to provide some shade. The tree would be ~ 10 feet from the covered patio
and ~10 feet from the back block wall. It will get no shade. Thanks

ANSWER:
There are some Acacia trees that would work nicely for your backyard. They
are:

Acacia salicina-Willow Acacia, native to Australia. Has fast, upright growth
to about
30' tall x 15' wide and has low water use.
Acacia stenophylla-Shoestring Acacia, also native to Australia. Has
(extremely) fast growth
to about 30' tall x 20' wide and has very low water use. It also provides a
beautiful
	filtered shade.
Acacia Willardiana-Palo Blanco, native to southern Sonoran Desert. Has
(unfortunately) slow-
moderate growth to about 20' tall x 10' wide and has very low water use. It
also
provides a wonderful filtered shade, but grows pretty slow, it also has
white peeling
bark like a birch tree. This tree is pretty hard to find, but if you go to
a smaller
local nursery, they can probably order one for you, just ask.

Hope this helps,
