I recently cut down a cotton wood tree. It was probably about 10 - 15 years old. This tree put out roots in all directions for more than 50 feet. After cutting it down, each one of these roots has begun sprouting new cotton wood trees about every 1 - 2 feet. This has become a large problem because these trees grow as much as a foot per week and right through the bermuda grass lawn, gravelled areas and planter beds.

The tree has completely invaded my yard and my surrounding neighbors yards. Mowing them off or cutting them at the ground surface doesn't kill them. They have to be removed from the roots with a shovel or lopper.

Is there anything I can do?
