When I lived in Phoenix I usually planted it in the fall, after things had started to cool off. I would sometimes add some in very early spring, but planting Alyssum then put it at risk of being killed by the summer's heat before it amounted to much. While I often had a few plants linger over the summer in shady locations, I don't recall ever having much luck keeping it alive in extremely hot weather.

In Tucson I can plant it in early autumn and again in late winter when the risk of serious frost has passed. It does very well for me here and seems to endure the heat a bit longer. But again, by midsummer it has almost always faded away.
