The crape myrtles sound beautiful.
You might want to carefully check some of
the leaves. Sometimes sucking insects that
feed on the leaves will create a "rain" effect
like you describe.
If you find insects, try washing them off with a
strong spray of water for several days in a row.
If that doesn't work, use an insecticidal soap but
follow directions carefully.
