Sinbad, I've seen avocado seedlings well over 20 feet tall but you don't
have to give one that much rein. If you want an ornamental, evergreen tree,
top and prune this one away from the overhang to suit your desires and buy
the fruit at the grocery store. Prudent sculpting with a pair of loppers and
a hand saw can make the tree fit into about any shape to occupy a space. You
never know, in eight or ten years, you might get fruit but don't plan on it.
Later, you could bud or graft mature scions or buds from named varieties to
some lower branches for a case of "having your cake and eating it too."
