[Arid_gardener] Protea

Patty,

A google search for "protea propagation" returns many sites. You didn't include
your zip code so we can't tell where you live. However, the Sunset Western
Garden Book says that most species require acid soil, are short lived, and young
plants are not frost hardy. Since most of us who monitor this list are in the
Sonoran Desert, protea wouldn't be adapted to our climate. They would be beter
suited to costal areas of southern Calif. or Hawaii.

Do you have any information or know where I can get information on how to
propagate protea? I would appreciate any help. Patty
