>From an earlier question:
Cooperative Extension Publication 8736 Softened & Recycled Water: Safe
for Plants? discusses using water that has been softened, or outflowing
from washing machines, pool backwashing, evap coolers, etc. In some
circumstances the untreated pool water can be used for irrigation and
the publication lists categories of plant materials by susceptibility to
salt content. The publication is available by mailing $1 to:

Home Horticulture Publications
University of Arizona Cooperative Extension
4341 E. Broadway Road
Phoenix, AZ 85040

Check that this publication is still available -- I could not find it online
when I searched.

Swimming pool water contains chlorine which can be detrimental to
some plants.
