Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, will not control nut grass,
but will kill nearly everything else. Halosulfuron-methyl, the active
ingrediant in Sedgehammer (formerly "Manage" ) has been reported to be
effective in controlling nut grass. It has also been said to be specific to
nut grass but, according to the label, will also kill some other "weeds".
Be sure to read the label on the container before using. Better still,
before buying you also might want to read the manufactureer's label at
http://www.gowanco.com/Reference/Document~rid~312~Sedgehammer01-R0705.pdf.aspx
Pretty pricey. We have nut grass in our date palm's tree well but the tree
is pretty isolated and it hasn't spread in 20 some years so we live with it.
I also do not believe that soil solarization using plastic will kill the
nutlets at the end of the roots.
