[Arid_gardener] Water?

first, apologies for errors. i took a bad fall at the ranch thursday
night. i'd be on crutches if my wrist weren't in a splint. what scared
me though was my cousin saying, ' don't let her look in a mirror.'

you'll recall that i used three old garbage cans for a garden the first
week of november, watering .under. the seed/bulb planying level, then
covering with dry potting soil.

the seeds and bulbs were so old (except for the three onions) that i
simply .hoped. they'd grow. nothing <sigh> as of sunday. when i've
brushed the top layer off looking for growth, i've run into a layer that
appears damp. at least it's not brushing easily. when should i water
again? should i assume that it's time to give up?

i've also wonered - does water always move down? or will it move from
wet to dry regardless of the directiom?

thanks.
