I have a Jelly Palm that has grown little in its 15 gal pot in 6 years. I
have intended to put it in the ground but these palms have a pretty good
breadth, a feature I didn't really want to deal with. I wanted the fruit but
to get it one should not remove any live fronds to take advantage of
photosynthesis but you have to also keep in mind that you will have to keep
your distance to avoid getting slapped in the face every time you sneak by.
I started this one from purchased seed but this ingrate has never paid me
back. I would search the internet for a source that would likely be
California or Florida. I believe the species likes a humid climate but I
lived in San Diego for 25 years and can't recall ever seeing one there. I'm
sure there are some and I would encourage you to try one if you have a
little room. Get a traveler's palm too while you are at it.
Thanks for reminding me. I need to pot my own up to a larger size.
