[Arid_gardener] Mesquite lost leaves after trimming

Hello Arid Gardener, My son has two 20 foot mesquite trees in his
Surprise front yard. Normally these get trimmed to a decent size in
January/February and are bright green in the summer time with much new
growth.

After a complaint from the homeowners association in August about being
to big around, we trimmed the perimeter heavily and left the middle and
top alone.

Within two weeks the one tree lost its leaves/needles (went brown). The
other is normal.

Can you tell from this description what went wrong? Is there any
suggestions to bring the tree back to life?

I have three mesquites of various sizes and the seem to handle drought
and wind well. This seemed unusual.

Thanks,
Mike Novak
