1-The bark is cracking & rolling up on a 2 yr old japanese elm ? cause, still developing new leaves. Will this eventually kill it? What can I do?  2- a Ash tree & then Brazillian Pepper tree both in the same area died. The Ash never produced any new leaves. The pepper tree did well for a while then the trunk started to split. I watered it regularly, covered the ground with mulch. It was planted in mid April & was in a sunny location all day . It was a 24 gal tree to start with. What would be a better tree to provide shade for my south facing back yard & what may have been the cause?
