[Arid_gardener] Dying Sisso Trees

I have sisso trees that are less than a year old.  Their leaves were turning yellow so, following the instructions on a bag of ammonium sulfate, I put some sulfate in the ground at the trees drip lines.  In 2 days the leaves have turned brown and are drying up, dropping - these trees appear to be dying!!  Can someone help?!!?!
