[Arid_gardener] Pruning acacia trees

We have three shoestring acacia trees planted about 15 months ago. They are
10-15 feet tall. The upper branches are reasonably long. There are quite a
few small, short branches along the lower trunks where we would like to have
smooth trunks ultimately so one can walk under the crown. Would it be
appropriate to prune them off this fall, say up to a height of 4 or 5 feet
above the ground?
