All trees, including evergreens, shed old leaves but some are messier than
others. There are tall trees, wide spreading trees and narrow trees.
There are semi-evergreen or cold deciduous trees that will drop leaves in
colder winters. There are high water use trees (e.g. citrus), medium water
use, and low water use trees. The booklet "Landscape Trees for the Arizona
Desert" contains descriptions and photos of trees recommended by AMWUA
(Arizona Municipal Water Use Association). The booklet is available from
your city water department or from the Maricopa Master Gardener Offices
listed at

Following are web sites that describe the low water use, evergreen trees
listed in the AMWUA booklet.
