Mike, I live in Tucson and don't think chiltepin peppers are hard to grow
since they are coming up like weeds in my yard. I read somewhere that the
seeds have to pass through a bird's digestive tract to germinate well, but I
don't know if this is true. I do know I have many, many seedlings that have
germinated just fine on their own in shady areas where they are getting
extra water, and extra water has not been a problem this summer-we've
finally had a decent monsoon. You can also look at the list serve devoted to
hot peppers on the Garden Web:

Type in chiltepin as a search and you will get more information. Good luck,
Marcia
Hello, my name is Mike and I live in Gilbert. Several of my friends are
gardeners too and they all tell me that growing chiltepine peppers is one of
the most challenging garden projects they have taken on. I have accepted
this challenge and have seeds from a quality supplier enroute. Is there a
formula for success with this plant? What publications would you suggest to
improve my odds of success? I'll be going to the Botanical Garden next week
and the Boyce Thompson Arboritum the next. Thanks in advance for your time
and help.
