[Arid_gardener] Question from Home-Hort WWW page

Sunglasses are not necessarily safety glasses. Do not use this tool without safety glasses and watch out for people who might be around you. Small particles can becone eye threatening. Weed eaters or whackers, depending on which brand you have, are an effective tool and the only one that will let you get to small areas that can't be reached except with handheld mechanical or rechargeable hand clippers.

The teenage work force doesn't exist anymore to the best of my knowledge. I worked as a clean-up boy in a bakery when I was 13 in National City, Ca. and my only pay was day-old bake goods that were often all our family had to eat. Two years later McMains bakery next door offered me a job for 35 cents an hour and the day I turned 17 in 1943 I ditched school to enlist in the Marine corp who paid 28 dollars a month but I got an extra five per month for firing expert on the rifle range. I had $12 dollars a month sent home but I was rolling in "dough!" Spent 28 months overseas where the luck of the draw got me back to San Diego in one piece.

Weedeaters require a little practice to develop a degree of skill that comes easy to most. I fashioned a bandelier from an old bed sheet for my own because I have only one arm to work with.

Get yourself a cheap pair of plastic safety glasses at the hardware.

I have been digging out sunglasses...thanks...the weedeater and I are
not friends. Is there a more frustrating piece of equipment? And what
ever happened to HS kids who would do the occasional chore for a coupla
bucks? Now--I get word of people who need community service--and they
  don't even turn up...
