According to the pruning list compiled by Master Gardeners Jo Miller an Pat
Greer at
http://home.att.net/~millero/Prune_month.htm
Prosopis chilensis
should be pruned in in the low desert February. But for light trimming, now
should be okay. For the high desert, you might want to ask the University
of Nevada Master Gardeners at

I have a 3 year old Chilean Mesquite tree. Can I trim it now or should I
wait until spring (March)? I'm getting different answers from Star Nursery.
One place told me it's the best time the other store told me to wait. I live
in Las Vegas and would appreciate your help. Sandy McGrath Dogfanatic at cox.
