Seann: my preference in our climate has been concrete over wood for two
reasons: 1) the presence of termites in our desert environment which are
attracted to the wood (especially wood around moisture), and 2) due to the
extreme heat to which many types of wood products just don't hold up. I
built my raised-bed vegetable garden using inexpensive decorative pavers,
which were easy for me to handle myself, plus they created a very attractive
edge to my structure. My plants have done just fine.
Good luck with which ever you choose; just be prepared to replenish the soil
from time to time, as it will quickly break down over several seasons.

We are putting in two raised bed gardens in our backyard. We had gotten some
advice to avoid using concrete block for the walls because it will retain
heat and fry our veggies during the hot months. We were told that wooden
walls work better. Is this really a valid concern? (pros/cons concrete vs.
wood walls)
