I would like to have an attractive year round garden on either side of the walkway that leads from the sidewalk to the front of my house.  It has a northern exposure.  The dimensions are twenty feet by 12 inches on each side.  In the winter/spring I've had petunias, pansies and allysum.  In the summer, lantana is successful there.  The transistions are rough.  What flowering plants or flowers can I plant, and how should I manage them to have vivid color most of the time?  I water by hose there, usually every other day.
