Life span in cooler climates where the purple leaf plum is well adapted
is typically 10-15 years. We had two of these trees a few years back
(Phoenix area) and they both began to die off at about 8 years which I
do not to believe to be unusual. I'm not certain of the expected life
span is in our climate but I wouldn't expect them to live for more than
10 years. The trees are also susceptible to diseases which shortens the
life
span. Ours never developed strong roots and had to be supported. Our trees
were cold-deciduous.
