[Arid_gardener] Question from Home-Hort WWW page

I feed in March, June and September using the recipe prescribing the amount 
on the bag of 21-0-0 according to trunk diameter. I distribute it around the 
drip line and irrigate in that area until I can sink a 1/4th inch rod  with 
ease three feet deep in several places in the center of a shallow trench at 
least 18 inches wide, the center straddling the drip line.

Let me know if these terms are confusing.
