"Two Valley Citrus Festivals"

 

        Get ready for the 2007 citrus planting season by getting answers
to all your questions about growing healthy citrus in the Valley of the
Sun. The Northwest Valley Citrus Clinic will be held on Saturday,
January 27, 2007 at the University of Arizona Citrus Agricultural Center
in Waddell. The East Valley Citrus Clinic will be held Saturday,
February 3, 2007 at the Greenfield Citrus Nursery in Mesa. 

 

        Gates open at 8:30 a.m. at each event, with the clinics running
from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Six half-hour presentations will be given
concurrently and repeated four times during the morning. There will be a
one-hour open question and answer period to consult with the foremost
experts in the state from noon to 1:00 p.m. Taste-test many citrus
varieties and learn how to select the best for your needs. All
presentations will be held outdoors, so dress accordingly. Wear walking
shoes and bring a chair if you would like to sit.

            

Topics at each clinic will include: Citrus Varieties Demonstration and
Tasting; Citrus Pruning, Planting and Budding; Citrus Irrigation
Practices; Citrus Fertilization Practices; Citrus Insect Pests and Their
Control; Citrus Diseases and Control.

 

Driving directions to Northwest Valley Clinic: The UA Citrus Agriculture
Center in Waddell is located north of I-10. Take the 303 Cotton Lane
off-ramp and go north on 303 about 10 miles to Greenway Rd. Take
Greenway west for about 2 miles and follow signs to the Center. Coming
from the Sun City area, take Bell Rd. west to Cotton Lane which is about
4 miles past Grand Avenue. Go south on Cotton Lane for 1 mile to
Greenway Rd. 

 

Driving directions to East Valley Clinic: Greenfield Citrus Nursery is
located at 2588 E. Lehi Rd. in Mesa. Go east on 202 to Gilbert Rd., exit
north 300 feet to McDowell Rd., east on McDowell to Lehi Rd., north to
first orchard on the left. Young trees and fresh citrus will be offered
for sale at the nursery.

 

Tickets are available advance purchase $8 and at the gate $10. Advance
purchases are available from the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension
located at 4341 E. Broadway Road, Phoenix. For further information call
