Hi Olin and all,
My husand and I started our peppers and tomatoes about
a month ago. We started them in those little pots that
you have to put in water to get them to expand.
Sometime ago, we purchased two of the heat mats made
specifically for plants. As soon as they sprouted, we
put them under the shop lights. My husband made a
stand so that we can raise the lights as needed. When
the plants started to get some size to them we took
the little pots and put them into bigger peat pots. We
keep them on the heat mats but only at night. The mats
are on an automatic timer as are the lights which are
on during the day.
Olin is definitely right about the peppers taking
longer to germinate than the tomatoes. I have one or
two that I am still waiting for to come up. I'll give
them a few more days before I start poking around to
see if the seed is okay.
Once my husband finishes building the third
greenhouse, we will put the tomatoes and peppers out
there. We may consider putting them in wall of waters
just in case. Or, we may have to purchase another
heater for that greenhouse.
Take care and have a great day.
Ellen
