[Arid_gardener] fungal mat

Thanks for the information, Tyler. We are all a little bit wiser.  It's 
comforting to know that it won't eat the family dog or swallow up the 
neighbor's kids. The stuff looks harmless, remarkably like something one 
might spray on a piece of pumpkin pie. You were the second to aver that the 
substance is not spittle.  Fungal mat is a term new to me.
