[Arid_gardener] Sissoo watering

I have a question about watering a Sissoo tree, but I have the same problem with some citrus. I know you should ideally water deeply and at the drip line, but if the tree was originally planted pretty low, that presents a problem. There is about a 3' low spot right at the trunk which makes a nice little well, but I don't just want to fill that well ea. time I water because the tree is now a couple yrs. old, and the drip line has expanded. If I try to water further from the trunk, the water just runs down to the well around the trunk. I'm wondering if I can move some dirt to the well and fill it in a little or would that kill the tree? Maybe just a little at a time? I guess the other option is a soaker hose, but I would like to get rid of the well. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
