Our young Hong Kong orchid tree shows rather severe signs of
potassium deficiency. In my store of fertilizers, none has more than
15% K. Grocery stores sell 40-pound bags of potassium chloride
pellets for water softening. If I crushed a few pellets, would they
make a suitable potassium supplement for the tree?

Hello Mr. Woody:
It is quite unlikely that you have potassium deficiency in your
orchid tree. This is because potassium is relatively common in
Arizona soils. It is more likely that you have iron or zinc
deficiency on your tree and you should consider applying these
elements rather than potassium.
Best of luck,
