[Arid_gardener] Question from Home-Hort WWW page

I have 4 elderica pines in my front yard: 3 out of the 4 are doing extremely well. They were planted in 1985-1990 (prior to arrival).  About 2 weeks ago I noticed that one started turning brown and I began additional watering (not over watering). It appears to have continued to decline (dying?).  It is right next to another one that is doing well and has not had any additinal water. I am perplexed: Any Ideas?
