i am renting a home in Glendale.  The back yard is hard packed dirt, the only thing growing is a crop of weeds.  I have limited funds to work with, & any labor involved would be done by me alone.  The yard is too large to tackle completely, but i would like a small green area by the back patio at least.  What can you suggest i do to achieve this, keeping the weeds  out & planting a small "green" area?
