[Arid_gardener] flowering vines for southern exposure

I'd like to plant flowering vines along the gate at the back of my
yard--southern exposure in Phoenix (Ahwatukee)-behind pool. We
currently have a bougainvillea there, but it has extensive frost damage
and my husband is tired of cleaning the debris out of the pool. He
wants to plant cats claw back there. However, I'm concerned that we'll
have to constantly trim it to keep it off of the palms and plants that
are planted in front of the wall. I was thinking about hardenbergia
(which we have planted elsewhere in the yard) and was wondering if I
should mix it with another vine to maximize the flowering time. We tried
snail vine in the past and it died-don't know why... Any suggestions?
