Robbie,

I think the gnats tend to thrive in moist, decaying plant material in
the top layer of the soil.  Here are some things that have worked for me-

1. Put a layer of diatomaceous earth on top of the soil.

2. Hang some flypaper in an inconspicuous place near the plants.

3. Let the plants dry out a little between waterings.

4. Spray the plants and the soil with an insecticide.  Personally I'd go
with one of the milder, plant-derived insecticides.
