I want to plant a pool friendly tree within the lawn area to shade the south side of the house. I have been studying books & web pages trying to choose something evergreen (or with a very short deciduous period), 15-25 ft. tall, and not too dense (for the lawn's sake). I don't like shoestring acacias. The best match I have found so far is a desert fern. But I can't find out if it will do okay in the lawn with supplemental deep watering. Do you have some other suggestions or is the desert fern a good choice?
